Upper Mustang Trek

Overview

The Long forbidden region of Mustang preserves some of last vestiges of ancient Tibetan culture. The Kingdom, situated on the border of Nepal and Tibet, has only been opened to trekking groups.

On this specially devised itinerary we plan to spend 10 days in Mustang, exploring and appreciating the kingdom’s rich cultural history.

From Pokhara we fly across the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri to Jomsom. We start our trekking to Kagbeni, the border that marks the entrance to the kingdom. The trail heading north skirts the ridges high above the kali Gandaki before descending to the southern edge of the Tibetan plateau. Mustang’s whitewashed settlements, fields of corn and barley and snow — capped ridges stretch deep into Tibet. We follow trails past mani walls, impressive chortens and simple village monasteries that reflect the region’s Buddhist heritage.
